I started my first job in a school working as a Paraprofessional (teacher’s aid) with $45,000 of student loan debt. To make things worse, I only made $19,000 a year.
I had NO PLAN to pay it off anytime soon. I couldn’t afford the payments, so I extended the length of my loans to 25 years.
In May 2014, I married my best friend Jenna. She was also a teacher, and she also had $45,000 in student loan debt. We were crazy in love but a financial MESS!
When we started dating in April 2013, we had $100,000 in total debt living on two teacher salaries. We were sick of debt ruling our lives and being clueless about money.
After a lot of research, we learned how to budget and save money. Then we made a Debt Snowball Spreadsheet and committed to being debt free in 5 years.
We wanted to start a family without debt, so we worked our butts off, and became debt free on May 27, 2017.
